Amazing writing! Americans lost a lot on that Tuesday, but one thing that gives me hope is something I gained on that same Tuesday. One of my best friends gave birth to a healthy baby girl that day. I know it's one small miracle lost amongst a staggering amount of tragedies, but it adds a little light to a very dark day.

Kevin, this is outstanding. Very clever of you to make sure we don't forget one of the most horrible days in America's history.
You made me remember how my heart ached with deep sorrow and fear.
How we waited with the families to see if their loved ones and friends made it to safety. How we cried. Brilliant!

So a well crafted, well written work of exposition. You nailed the pain and anguish, as well as the compassion and hope with this collection. Love the common thread between some of the stories, and love how even in darkness, you leave some hope. The titles for each are well done (although I don't know what 10-60 means). Great!

It took me two days to read these, and both times I cried.

You have a gentle but powerful touch.

Kevin, Six super pieces so neatly encapsulating that singular day. 9/11 haunts me still; I have friends and family of friends whose souls were smashed to smithereens that day in NYC and the Pentagon. Beautiful writing.

My tribute appeared here some time ago (http://sixsentences.blogspot.com/2008/02/perfect-day.html) and remains a bit character in much of my writing.

Thank you. Peace, Linda

Kevin,

An outstanding collection of stories and as always you show your superb writing skills and do not disappoint. Your writing reads like journalism and brought back the horror and even hope that juxtaposed that wretched day. There is a "you are there" gritty realism that reads like Tolstoy or Thompson, Hemingway, Crane. A fine collection.

Super collection, Kevin. Beautiful writing of the worst - and sometimes the best - of us. In Darkness of Dawn really touched me. Well done.

Thanks to all for your comments (I've tried to respond wherever possible individually-sorry if I missed anyone). I truly appreciate all the kind words - these were some of the most personal sixes I've ever written, and I wanted them to meaningful.

BTW Michael B - the NYFD uses a 10-60 to report a major incident...guess I should have been a little cleared with that.

Thanks again to all!

Kevin, I am stunned! This is your best work yet. Maybe the best of any 6S yet. You made me feel as though I was there, with each character, as their stories were unfolding. And the saga of the "pregnant woman" making it through to the end was a lovely bonus.
